Hypoxia-inducible factor 1-alpha (HIF-1α) is a transcription factor that plays a critical role in the cellular response to low oxygen levels, or hypoxia. It is part of the HIF-1 complex which also includes HIF-1β. HIF-1α regulates the expression of various genes that are involved in processes such as angiogenesis, metabolism, and cell survival.
