The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) is a landmark project that began in 2006, aimed at cataloging genetic mutations responsible for cancer using genome sequencing and bioinformatics. The project is a collaborative effort between the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI). TCGA has generated comprehensive, multi-dimensional maps of the key genomic changes in 33 types of cancer.
