How does SGLT1 differ from SGLT2?

While both SGLT1 and SGLT2 are involved in glucose transport, they differ in their locations and functions. SGLT2 is primarily found in the renal proximal tubules and is responsible for reabsorbing the majority of glucose from the glomerular filtrate. SGLT1, on the other hand, has a higher affinity but lower capacity for glucose and is crucial for absorbing dietary glucose in the intestine. SGLT2 inhibitors are commonly used in the treatment of diabetes, whereas SGLT1 inhibitors are still under investigation.
