What Types of Cells Are Found in the Transitional Epithelium?
The transitional epithelium consists of several layers of cells:
Basal cells: These cells are small and cuboidal, located on the basement membrane. Intermediate cells: These are larger and more columnar, situated above the basal cells. Superficial cells: Also known as umbrella cells, these are large, dome-shaped cells on the surface. They are particularly important for providing the epithelium's waterproof barrier.
