What Histological Changes Occur in Pathological Conditions?
Various pathological conditions can alter the histological structure of the renal pelvis. For instance, in cases of pyelonephritis (a bacterial infection of the kidney), there can be infiltration of inflammatory cells into the epithelium and lamina propria. Chronic inflammation may lead to fibrosis and thickening of the renal pelvis walls. In cases of transitional cell carcinoma, the normal architecture of the transitional epithelium is disrupted by malignant cells.
