MUM1 is a critical marker in the diagnosis and classification of lymphomas. Its expression is associated with certain subtypes of B-cell lymphomas, including diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) and multiple myeloma. In DLBCL, MUM1 expression can help differentiate between germinal center B-cell-like (GCB) and activated B-cell-like (ABC) subtypes, which have different prognoses and treatment responses.
