What are the Limitations of Fluorescence Scanners?
Despite their advantages, fluorescence scanners have some limitations:
Photobleaching: Prolonged exposure to excitation light can cause the fluorescent dyes to lose their ability to emit light. Autofluorescence: Some tissues can exhibit natural fluorescence, which can interfere with the detection of the specific fluorescent signal. Background Noise: Non-specific binding of fluorescent probes can create background noise, complicating data interpretation. Cost: Fluorescence scanners and associated reagents can be expensive, limiting their accessibility in some settings.
