Dysregulation of NRF1 expression or activity can lead to several pathological conditions. In cancer, for instance, NRF1 has been implicated in the metabolic reprogramming of tumor cells, enabling them to meet their increased energy demands. Additionally, altered NRF1 function is associated with neurodegenerative diseases, where impaired mitochondrial function contributes to cellular dysfunction and disease progression.
