IL-4 can also influence cancer histology. In certain tumors, IL-4 may promote the survival and proliferation of cancer cells. For instance, in lymphomas and certain types of leukemia, IL-4 can act as a growth factor. Histologically, this may be reflected in increased tumor cell numbers and altered expression of surface markers influenced by IL-4.
