Osteons form through a process called bone remodeling, which involves the coordinated actions of osteoclasts and osteoblasts. Osteoclasts resorb old bone tissue, creating a cavity. Osteoblasts then lay down new bone matrix, forming new lamellae and eventually creating a new osteon.
