Once inside the nucleus, NICD interacts with the CSL transcription factor (CBF1/RBP-Jκ in mammals) and converts it from a transcriptional repressor to an activator. This interaction leads to the transcription of target genes involved in various cellular processes such as cell fate determination and maintenance of stem cells.
