The Hsp70 protein consists of two main domains: the N-terminal ATPase domain and the C-terminal substrate-binding domain. The ATPase domain binds and hydrolyzes ATP, which drives conformational changes necessary for substrate binding and release. The substrate-binding domain recognizes and interacts with exposed hydrophobic regions on unfolded or misfolded proteins, preventing their aggregation and assisting in proper folding.
