Fibroblasts are involved in several pathological conditions. In fibrosis, excessive fibroblast activity leads to the overproduction of extracellular matrix, resulting in tissue scarring and impaired function. Fibroblasts also play a role in cancer by creating a supportive microenvironment for tumor growth and metastasis. Additionally, they are implicated in chronic inflammatory diseases, where persistent activation of fibroblasts contributes to ongoing tissue damage and remodeling.
