Pseudopeptidoglycan, also known as pseudomurein, is a polymer that closely resembles peptidoglycan, a major component of bacterial cell walls. However, pseudopeptidoglycan is found specifically in the cell walls of certain archaea, particularly those in the class Methanobacteria. Unlike peptidoglycan, pseudopeptidoglycan does not contain N-acetylmuramic acid; instead, it contains N-acetyltalosaminuronic acid.
