Hemoglobin C disease is a genetic disorder of the blood, specifically involving the abnormal formation of hemoglobin. Hemoglobin is the protein in red blood cells responsible for carrying oxygen throughout the body. In Hemoglobin C disease, a mutation in the hemoglobin beta gene results in the production of abnormal hemoglobin known as hemoglobin C (HbC).
