A comedo is a type of acne lesion that forms when a hair follicle becomes clogged with sebum, dead skin cells, and other debris. In histology, comedos are significant because they provide insight into the pathophysiology of acne and related skin conditions. There are two main types of comedos: open comedones (blackheads) and closed comedones (whiteheads).
