What Diseases are Associated with Misfolded Proteins?
Misfolded proteins are implicated in a range of diseases known as proteinopathies. These include Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, Huntington's disease, and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). In these conditions, the accumulation of misfolded proteins in neurons leads to cell dysfunction and death, which can be observed histologically as neuronal loss and gliosis.
