Abnormal expression or function of CD11b has been implicated in several diseases. For example, elevated levels of CD11b are often observed in inflammatory and autoimmune conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus. Conversely, decreased CD11b expression or function can lead to impaired immune responses and increased susceptibility to infections.
