What Are the Histological Features of Local Recurrence?
Histologically, locally recurrent tumors often exhibit:
- Increased Cellular Atypia: Recurrent tumors may show more pronounced cellular abnormalities compared to the primary tumor. - Higher Mitotic Index: An increased number of mitotic figures indicates higher proliferative activity. - Necrosis: Areas of cell death within the tumor can be more widespread in recurrent tumors. - Invasion: Recurrent tumors may show more aggressive invasion into surrounding tissues.
