Local recurrence can occur due to several factors:
- Incomplete Surgical Resection: If the initial surgical removal of the tumor was not complete, residual cancerous cells can proliferate and cause a recurrence. - Micrometastases: Small clusters of cancer cells that were not detected during initial treatment may later grow and cause a recurrence. - Tumor Biology: The inherent properties of certain tumors, such as aggressiveness and the ability to invade surrounding tissues, can contribute to local recurrence.
