What are the Histological Features of Hashimoto's Thyroiditis?
In Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, the thyroid gland shows extensive lymphocytic infiltration, including the formation of lymphoid follicles with germinal centers. The normal follicular architecture is disrupted, and the follicles may appear atrophic. The epithelial cells lining the follicles often exhibit eosinophilic, granular cytoplasm, known as Hurthle cells. Fibrosis can also be present in the later stages of the disease.
