Drugs known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) are commonly used to treat depression by increasing serotonin levels in the brain. Additionally, serotonin syndrome is a potentially life-threatening condition resulting from excessive serotonin activity, usually due to drug interactions or overdose.
