Clinically, tPA is used as a thrombolytic agent in the treatment of acute ischemic stroke, myocardial infarction, and pulmonary embolism. Recombinant forms of tPA, such as alteplase, are administered to dissolve clots and restore blood flow. However, the use of tPA is associated with risks, including hemorrhage, and must be carefully managed.
