mononucleosis

How is Mononucleosis Diagnosed Histologically?

Diagnosis of mononucleosis usually involves a combination of clinical presentation and laboratory findings. Histologically, a blood smear is examined under a microscope to identify atypical lymphocytes. The presence of these cells, along with clinical symptoms, can strongly suggest a diagnosis of mononucleosis. Additional tests may include serological assays to detect specific antibodies against the Epstein-Barr virus.
