How do layers contribute to the function of the skin?
The skin is composed of three primary layers, each with specific functions:
1. Epidermis: The outermost layer, made up of stratified squamous epithelium. It includes layers such as the stratum corneum, stratum granulosum, stratum spinosum, and stratum basale. 2. Dermis: Located beneath the epidermis, it is composed of dense irregular connective tissue and houses blood vessels, nerves, and glands. It has two sub-layers: the papillary layer and the reticular layer. 3. Hypodermis (Subcutaneous Layer): Made of loose connective tissue and fat, providing insulation and cushioning.
