Protein synthesis occurs through a process called translation, which takes place in the ribosomes of cells. The process begins with transcription, where a segment of DNA is copied into mRNA (messenger RNA). The mRNA then leaves the nucleus and attaches to a ribosome, where tRNA (transfer RNA) molecules bring amino acids to the ribosome to be added to the growing polypeptide chain.
