Leukocyte rolling allows for the initial capture and subsequent firm adhesion of leukocytes to the endothelium. Without rolling, leukocytes would not be able to slow down sufficiently to adhere firmly and migrate into the tissue where they are needed to combat pathogens or repair tissue damage.
