GATA4 is predominantly expressed in the cardiac tissue, but it is also found in the liver, gonads, and the gastrointestinal tract. During embryogenesis, GATA4 is highly active in the developing heart, where it regulates the expression of genes required for cardiac morphogenesis and function.
