Ankyrin R is localized primarily in the cytoplasmic side of the plasma membrane of erythrocytes. It is part of the larger cytoskeleton network that includes spectrin, actin, and other associated proteins. Although it is most abundant in red blood cells, Ankyrin R is also found in brain, heart, and muscle tissues, where it serves similar anchoring functions.
