What Role Does Cyclin E Play in Cell Cycle Regulation?
Cyclin E plays a pivotal role in cell cycle regulation by driving the G1/S transition. When bound to CDK2, cyclin E phosphorylates several substrates, including the retinoblastoma protein (Rb). Phosphorylation of Rb releases E2F transcription factors, which then activate the transcription of genes required for DNA replication and S phase entry.
