One of the most distinctive features of starfish is their water vascular system, a network of hydraulic canals used for locomotion, feeding, and respiration. The system includes structures such as the madreporite, stone canal, ring canal, and the radial canals extending into each arm. Tube feet, which are extensions of the water vascular system, are lined with ciliated epithelial cells and muscle fibers, allowing them to adhere to surfaces and manipulate objects.
