What Role Does the Nervous System Play in Starfish?
The nervous system of starfish is relatively simple but highly effective. It consists of a nerve ring encircling the central disc and radial nerves extending into each arm. This arrangement allows starfish to coordinate their movements and respond to environmental changes. Sensory cells in the epidermis detect stimuli, and the information is transmitted to the nerve ring and radial nerves, which then coordinate the muscular responses needed for movement and feeding.
