Antidiuretic hormone (ADH), also known as vasopressin, is a key regulator of water balance. Produced by the hypothalamus and released by the pituitary gland, ADH increases water reabsorption in the kidneys by making the collecting ducts more permeable to water. When the body is dehydrated, ADH levels rise, promoting water reabsorption and reducing urine output.
