What is the Relationship Between RNA Triphosphatase and mRNA Capping?
RNA triphosphatase is the first enzyme in the mRNA capping process. After it removes the γ-phosphate from the 5' end of the RNA, the diphosphate end is capped by guanylyltransferase, which adds a GMP moiety. This capped structure is then methylated by methyltransferase to form the mature mRNA cap, which is recognized by the cellular machinery responsible for mRNA translation and stability.
