What is the Relationship Between Osteoblasts and Osteoclasts?
Osteoblasts and osteoclasts work in concert to maintain bone homeostasis through a process known as bone remodeling. Osteoblasts produce RANKL, which binds to RANK on osteoclast precursors, promoting their differentiation into mature osteoclasts. Conversely, osteoblasts also produce OPG, which inhibits osteoclast differentiation. This balance ensures that bone formation and resorption occur at comparable rates, maintaining overall bone mass and health.
