Divalent Metal Transporter 1 (DMT1), also known as SLC11A2 or NRAMP2, is a transmembrane protein responsible for the transport of divalent metal ions, particularly iron (Fe²âº), across cellular membranes. DMT1 plays a critical role in iron homeostasis, which is essential for numerous biological processes, including oxygen transport, DNA synthesis, and electron transport in mitochondria.
