Autosomal recessive inheritance is a type of genetic inheritance where two copies of an abnormal gene must be present for the disease or trait to develop. These genes are located on one of the 22 pairs of autosomes (non-sex chromosomes). In autosomal recessive disorders, the parents of an affected individual are typically carriers, possessing one normal and one abnormal gene.
