A carcinoma is a type of cancer that originates in the epithelial cells, which are the cells that line the inside and outside surfaces of the body. Epithelial cells are found in the skin, as well as in the lining of organs and glands. Carcinomas can occur in various parts of the body and are classified based on the type of epithelial cell from which they originate.
