What are the physiological roles of muscle tissues?
Muscle tissues are specialized for contraction and movement. There are three types of muscle tissues: skeletal muscle, cardiac muscle, and smooth muscle. Skeletal muscle is involved in voluntary movements and is attached to bones. Cardiac muscle, found only in the heart, contracts rhythmically to pump blood, while smooth muscle is found in the walls of internal organs and is responsible for involuntary movements, such as peristalsis in the digestive tract.
