Collagen fibers provide strength, elastic fibers provide elasticity, and reticular fibers form a supportive framework. Ground Substance: This is the non-cellular material that fills the space between cells and fibers. It is composed of water, proteoglycans, and glycosaminoglycans, and it serves as a medium for nutrient and waste exchange.
