What are the Histological Features of Functional Cysts?
Functional cysts are typically benign and result from normal ovarian function.
Follicular cysts: These occur when a follicle does not rupture and release the egg. Histologically, they are lined by granulosa cells and theca cells. Corpus luteum cysts: These form after an egg has been released. They are characterized by a central cavity filled with blood or clear fluid and are lined by luteinized granulosa cells.
