What Are the Histological Characteristics of Myelin Sheath Degeneration?
Histologically, myelin sheath degeneration is characterized by several features. These include demyelination, where the myelin sheath is lost or severely damaged. Additionally, inflammatory cells such as macrophages and lymphocytes may be present, indicating an immune response. There may also be evidence of axonal damage and gliosis, which is a reactive change of glial cells in response to damage.
