Nephrons are the fundamental functional units of the kidneys. Each kidney contains approximately 1 to 1.5 million nephrons, which are responsible for filtering blood, removing waste products, and balancing electrolytes and fluids in the body. Nephrons consist of two main parts: the renal corpuscle and the renal tubule.
