How is Synovial Fluid Produced and What is its Function?
Synovial fluid is produced by the synovial membrane, which lines the inner surface of the joint capsule. The membrane comprises two layers: an outer fibrous layer and an inner synovial layer. The synovial layer contains synoviocytes, which secrete synovial fluid. This fluid lubricates the joint, nourishes the articular cartilage, and acts as a shock absorber during movement.
