Compared to non-treponemal tests like the Rapid Plasma Reagin (RPR) and Venereal Disease Research Laboratory (VDRL) tests, FTA-ABS is more specific for Treponema pallidum. While non-treponemal tests are useful for screening and monitoring treatment, FTA-ABS is better suited for confirming diagnosis due to its higher specificity.
