Histologically, syphilis can present with various features depending on its stage. In primary syphilis, a chancre with dense plasma cell infiltrate is common. Secondary syphilis may show mucocutaneous lesions with a lymphoplasmacytic infiltrate. Tertiary syphilis can cause gummas, characterized by granulomatous inflammation and necrosis.
