Lymphocytes are pivotal in the adaptive immune response. B cells are responsible for producing antibodies that neutralize pathogens. T cells come in various types, including helper T cells, which aid other immune cells, and cytotoxic T cells, which directly kill infected cells. Histologically, lymphocytes can be identified by their large nuclei and scant cytoplasm.
