HEPA filters operate using a combination of three mechanisms: diffusion, interception, and impaction. These mechanisms work together to trap particles of varying sizes:
Diffusion: This process captures smaller particles that collide with gas molecules and are diverted towards the filter fibers. Interception: This mechanism traps larger particles that come into direct contact with filter fibers as they follow the airstream. Impaction: Larger particles are unable to follow the airstream around the filter fibers and are directly impacted and trapped.
