Recurrence can occur due to several reasons. One of the primary causes is the presence of micrometastases—tiny clusters of cancer cells that were not detected and eliminated during the initial treatment. These cells can later grow and lead to the recurrence of the disease. Other factors include genetic mutations, the aggressiveness of the tumor, and the specific characteristics of the original cancer cells.
