In eukaryotic cells, microtubule nucleation primarily occurs at the centrosome, which functions as the main MTOC. The centrosome is composed of two centrioles surrounded by pericentriolar material (PCM). In addition to the centrosome, other specialized MTOCs can nucleate microtubules, such as the spindle pole body in yeast and the Golgi apparatus in some animal cells.
